Gingerbread Beer Cake Recipe
If you want to try baking with beer, this recipe is a great one for St. Patrick's Day. serves 12 1 stick unsalted butter 1 c. sugar 3 large eggs 2 c. flour 1 1/2 t. ground ginger 1 1/2 t. baking soda 1 t. cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 t. ground cloves 1/2 t. freshly grated nutmeg 1 c. molasses 1 c. stout, or other dark beer powdered sugar, for dusting optional: whipped cream, for topping Preheat the oven to 350 F. Grease a 13 by 9-inch cake pan and set aside.Cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl. Beat in the eggs 1 at a time. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour and spices. In a third bowl, combine the molasses and beer and stir to dissolve. Add the dry ingredients and beer mixture alternately to the egg mixture, beating after each addition.Pour into the prepared pan and bake until puffed and set, about 35 minutes. Let cool in the pan on a wire rack. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar, top with whipped cream if you like, and serve.
