Dirt Cake Is a Fun, Tasty, Easily Decorated Halloween Dessert

Dirt Cake

serves 10

32 ounces chocolate sandwich cookies (Oreos)

1/2 cup butter, softened

8 oz. cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup confectioners' (powdered) sugar

2 packages (3.5 oz.) instant vanilla pudding mix

3 1/2 cups milk 1 container (12 oz.) frozen whipped topping, thawed

1 new eight-inch flower pot, lined with foil (or another deep serving dish that is appropriate for layered dessert and your choice of decorations)

Directions:

Cream softened butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar together.

Mix well 3 1/2 cups milk and instant pudding; add 12 oz. Cool Whip.

Add pudding mixture to cream cheese mixture and combine well.

Place cookies in large ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin. Or use a food processor, scraping often and watching to make sure crumbs are the size you want.

Put 1 1/2 inches of cookie crumbs on the bottom of your flower pot or serving dish and follow with a layer of the pudding mixture, then another layer of crumbs. Continue to alternate, ending with pudding mixture, and reserving the last of the crumbs. Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Just before serving, add your last layer of cookie crumbs and decorate as desired. Have fun with candies, marshmallow ghosts, cookie gravemarkers, gummy worms, toy insects, artificial flowers, etc.
