Two Versions of the Classic Onion Dip Recipe
Onion Dip Recipe This first one is based on a recipe from Alton Brown. Tastes best made a day in advance, so that flavors develop. Also, turns out very light in color. You may want to add powdered beef bullion or a slight amount of Worcestershire sauce if you want it to be light brown. Serves 12 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 1/2 cups diced onions 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1 1/2 cups sour cream 3/4 cup mayonnaise 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon white pepper 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt Heat oil in a saute pan over medium heat. Add onions and 1/4 tsp. salt. Cook the onions until they are caramelized, about 20 min. (or longer if you want deep brown onions, watch and stir so they don't go past the point of no return). Remove from heat and set aside to cool. Mix the rest of the ingredients and then stir in the cooled onions. Refrigerate and stir again before serving. Serve with wavy potato chips for dipping.
