Texas Sheet Cake Recipe Two Ways

Texas Sheet Cake Recipe

serves 16-20

This Texas sheet cake recipe is dense, rich, sweet and meant to be served out of the pan.

1 c. butter

1 c. water or coffee

4 T. cocoa powder

2 c. all-purpose flour

2 c. sugar

2 eggs, beaten

1/2 c. sour cream

1 t. vanilla extract

1 t. cinnamon

1 t. salt

1 t. baking soda

Frosting

1/2 cup butter

8 oz. softened cream cheese

1 t. vanilla extract

2 c. powdered (confectioners') sugar

4 T. cocoa

1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F. In a large saucepan, bring butter, cocoa and water or coffee to a boil. Remove from the heat; stir in flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt and baking soda until smooth. Pour into a greased 15x10 inch baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes, until cake tests done. For cake frosting, cream together butter, cream cheese and vanilla extract; beat in sugar, cocoa and optional nuts; spread over warm cake.

White Texas Sheet Cake

Serves 16-20

1 t. salt

1 t. baking soda

Frosting

1/2 cup butter

8 oz. softened cream cheese

1 t. vanilla, almond, or maple extract

2 c. powdered (confectioners') sugar

1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F. In a large saucepan, bring butter and water to a boil. Remove from the heat; stir in flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, flavor extract, salt and baking soda until smooth. Pour into a greased 15x10 inch baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until cake is golden brown and tests done. For cake frosting, cream together butter, cream cheese and flavor extract; beat in sugar and optional nuts; spread over warm cake.
